Application Updates -------------------------------------------------

The Fall 2013 MOT Admissions Cycle is now closed

Information regarding the Fall 2014 MOT Admissions Cycle will be available shortly.  Please monitor our website closely for any changes to our admissions requirements, application instructions and important deadlines.

  1. Review the Fall 2013 Admission Requirements and Prerequisites for details about your eligibility for admission to the OT program.
  2. Complete an application in the Occupational Therapy Centralized Application Service (OTCAS)
    Complete instructions for completing the OTCAS application are available on the OTCAS website www.otcas.orgAll communication from the Program in OT will be sent by email through OTCAS. Please make sure you enter an accurate email address, check your inbox frequently and set junk mail filters appropriately.
  3. Complete the Supplemental Admissions Application to the Program in Occupational Therapy

      Download and save this form to your desktop or documents folder prior to entering any information.
        Please save your application using the following format: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME. Please do not include any other information in the document title. Adobe Reader is required to complete this form. You will need it to upload the completed form on the online supplemental application page.

      • Have you previously applied to the Program in OT at the U of M?

        1. Describe the ways you will contribute to the student experience in the Occupational Therapy curriculum and the profession by your diversity of life experience. Diversity includes: Race, Ethnicity, Rural Geographic Background, Economic Background, First Generation College, Underrepresented Sex (males are underrepresented in the field), Disability, Leadership or Service, Special ExtraCurricular Involvement, Special Skills and Talents.
        2. Tell us about a time you used critical thinking to solve a problem?
        3. If your academic record shows a pattern of course repeats, failures or withdrawals, please explain.

      The Program in Occupational Therapy's mission is to enhance the health and quality of life of the people of Minnesota, the nation, and the world through engagement in meaningful occupation. To meet this challenge, the Program promotes collaboration across the university and with public/private partners in health, community, and government systems. The applicant may be sponsored by a public /private partner to pursue a degree in occupational therapy with a commitment to serve in a geographic area or with an underserved population experiencing a work force shortage for occupational therapy.
    • Medical Terminology Requirement
      If you do not have a one credit (minimum) prerequisite course in Medical Terminology on a submitted transcript, you must submit evidence of completion of a one-credit equivalent online medical terminology course. You must select an online course that can provide verification of completion.
    • Complete the secure electronic payment of $30.00 online to the Center for Allied Health Programs.
      Your application will be considered only after you have submitted an electronic payment. If you are unable to make a payment electronically please contact our office at (877) 334-2659.

Timelines & Deadlines

The Program in Occupational Therapy admits for Fall term ONLY.

  • Fall 2013 OTCAS and Supplemental application opens | August  2012
  • OTCAS and Supplemental application deadline | NOW CLOSED
  • Academic Course updates in OTCAS
    (additional courses completed after application submitted) | January 15 to February 1, 2013
  • Program in OT Admission Committee application reviews begins | January 15, 2013
  • Admission offer communications BEGIN no later than | March 15, 2013 and continue until  our classes are full. ALL communications will be sent by email.
  • Admission offer decision timeline | One week from admissions offer
  • Waitlist offer decision timeline |  Three business days due to time limitations
  • Outstanding prerequisite course completion | August 19, 2013
  • New student online orientation tutorials completion | August 19, 2013 (tentative)
  • All communication from the Program in OT will be sent by email through the OTCAS system. If you need to update your email address after February 1st, 2013, please notify us by emailing cahpinfo@umn.edu. Please note some email filters may interpret a message from OTCAS or the U of M as “spam” and automatically delete it or place it in your spam/junk email file. To avoid missing important emails, turn the email filters off during the admissions cycle and periodically check your spam/junk email file for OTCAS (webadmit.org) or U of M (cahpinfo@umn.edu) messages.
